Visit the beautiful beachside village “Tharanganbadi” where the 1st printing press in Tamilnadu established. Tharangambadi meaning as “singing waves” the first Danish trading post in India established in 1620 formerly known as Tranquebar, is a town in the Nagapattinam district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu on the Coromandel Coast. It lies 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) north of Karaikal, near the mouth of a distributary of the Kaveri River. Tranquebar was the first Danish trading port in India established in 1620. At the museum (near the beach) inside Fort Dansborg, contains porcelain ware, Danish manuscripts, glass objects, Chinese tea jars, steatitle lamps, decorated terracotta objects, figurines, lamps, stones, sculptures, swords, daggers, spears, sudai (stucco) figurines and wooden objects. There is also part of a whale skeleton, a giant sawfish rostrum, and small cannonballs. In 1712, two Lutheran missionaries, Bartholomaus Ziegenbalg and Heinrich Pluetschau, brought us a great treasure to the little town – they established a printing press, the first one on the sub-continent – and began to publish in the local language.
