Badami- Experience a sculptor’s blood, sweat and tears!

From B. C 543-753, Badami was the capital of the Chalukya empire.Traces of culture like Vaishnava, Buddhism and Jainism are found in the caves. It has four cave temple complex. out of 4 caves the main sculpture of Lord Mahavishnu is in the 3rd cave temple. There is a stone inscription refers to the construction of the temple completed by  1st of November AD 578. The caves temples have built inside  cutting red colored rocks surrounding a large pond called the Agasthyathirtha. Even now people believe that if u do an  auspicious bathing in the pond,even leprosy can be cured.

The fourth cave temple is a Jain shrine, which is dedicated to Jain monks and devotees for prayers and meditation.  There are sculptures of Parshvanath and Mahaviran as well as Bahubali.  Built by Adilshahi, the governor of Tipu, the mosque situated on the left side entrance this temple  complex is an example of very much relevant communal harmony prevailed at that time.

The golden age of Badami is the period of Pulakesi II Emperor. outside Archaeological Museum in the complex, a very important statement on the history of the killing of King Pulikesi 2 by Pallava King Narasimham Verma 1 in AD 624 is explained.

Another attraction is the Cannon which is placed at fort in the year of 1550.
